China just took another step in the space race with the launch of its second laboratory Tiangong-2 late Thursday, a major step further in the plan to establish a permanent space station by 2022.

As expected, the Tiangong-2, which translates to Heavenly Palace in Mandarin, was successfully launched at 10.04pm local time Thursday (14.04 GMT) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert, some 1,600 km from Beijing.
