The death toll from the fire that broke out in a packaging factory in Bangladesh rose to 33 on Monday, while authorities continue searching the plant's rubble for the 11 people listed as missing.

"Today, we have recovered four bodies," army Lt. Col. Mohammad Rashidul Hasan said in a press conference.

Army troops and firefighters are searching the Tampaco Foils Limited factory, which burned down Saturday in Tongi, located near Dhaka, and partially collapsed.

Rescue teams are working cautiously amid the charred rubble because "the factory used different chemicals to make aluminum foil," including 25 tons of ethyl acetate, a highly flammable chemical, Hasan said.

The operation could last several days and it will be necessary to wait for a complete investigation of the fire's cause, Hasan said.

Farzana Mannan, a district administrative official, told EFE that 11 people were still missing and believed to be in the rubble.

The father of one of the victims filed a police complaint against factory owner Syed Mokbul Hussain and seven others, district police officer Shunahor Ali told EFE.

"We are trying to arrest those accused," who include the wife of the owner, Ali said.

The fire at the plant, located some 25 kilometers (16 miles) north of Dhaka, broke out at 6:00 a.m. Saturday while 75 workers were inside.

A boiler explosion was initially thought to have caused the blaze, but an Industry Ministry official could not confirm to EFE whether that was the cause and did not rule out that the fire may have originated elsewhere.

This is the worst industrial accident in Bangladesh since the Rana Plaza building collapse in Dhaka left 1,100 workers dead and 2,500 others injured.
