U.S. National Park Service turns 100

The U.S. National Park Service commemorated on Thursday the passage of 100 years since it was founded with the aim of preserving natural treasures for the enjoyment of future generations.

Though the law creating the NPS was signed in 1916 by then-President Woodrow Wilson, the greatest impetus for conserving natural areas and wildlife came from one of his predecessors, Theodore Roosevelt.
