Andrea Leadsom drops out UK race to replace PM David Cameron

Energy spokeswoman Andrea Leadsom on Monday dropped out of the contest to become leader of the British Conservative Party and the United Kingdom's next prime minister.

Announcing her withdrawal to the press in central London, Leadsom wished remaining leadership contender, Theresa May, "the very greatest success."

Adding that she had her "full support."

The Conservatives must decide who is to replace David Cameron as government leader.

What happens next will depend on the 1922 Committee, a private Conservative Committee of lawmakers, who are due to set out a timetable regarding to the change of leader.

David Cameron announced his resignation as British Prime Minister on June 24, 2016, after the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.
