China launches world's first quantum communication satellite

China launched the world's first quantum telecommunications satellite, QUESS, early Tuesday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi Desert, northwest China, reported official news agency Xinhua.

The QUESS, or Quantum Experiments at Space Scale, a compact satellite, not bigger than a car, and that weighs 600 kg, was fired off at 1.40am aboard a Long March 2D rocket.
